1. Application Material Checklist
1) Online application for international students.
2) ID photo, (photo reference format: color, 2-inch bare-headed ID photo, white background without frame, the head occupies 2/3 of the photo size, the size of the photo is not less than 320*240 pixels, and the aspect ratio is 4:3. The size is 100-500KB, JPG format).
3) Valid passport information page, and applicants in China must submit passport visa page.
4) Highest diploma or degree certificate (new graduates can submit the expected graduation certificate; if the version is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be attached).
5) A complete transcript of the highest degree (if the version is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be attached).
6) Study plan.
7) Proof of Chinese language proficiency (HSK Level 4 or above certificate), which must be obtained within the past two years.
8) Financial guarantee certificate.
9) No criminal record.
10) Physical examination form for foreigners.
2. Payment of registration fee

3. Interview and examination process for international students
1) Please take the online written exams of mathematics, chemistry, and comprehensive science.
2) Please prepare Tencent Meeting and WeChat for online interview in advance.
3) If there is no HSK4 score yet, but the students who have performed well in all aspects of the interview will be recommended to study in Preparatory College of Shanghai Normal University for one year, and those who pass the preparatory study can enter SUMHS undergraduate programs
4. Applying for Visa and residence permit
For international degree students, the International Student Management Office of the College of International Education (CIE) will send the admission letter, registration instructions, and JW202 form (visa application form) to the students by courier. Students should apply for X1 (study over 6 months) visa at the local Chinese embassy or consulate with a valid passport, admission letter and JW202 form. After Complete the visa application, the students should go to the International Student Office of CIE for registration and need to submit a copy of the local physical examination report and admission letter.
1) New students applying for a residence permit
(1) New students must enter the country with an X1 visa. After entering the country, new students need to arrive at Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences (SUMHS) as soon as possible. New students must hand over original passport to the front desk of Building 8, North Campus within 24 hours of arriving at the school, and register for temporary accommodation. If new students do not register within 24 hours after arriving in Shanghai, it will be considered expired. The X1 visa is valid for 30 days from the time of entry, and new students must complete the residence permit application procedures within these 30 days.
(2) After the new students register at SUMHS, relevant management personnel will assist the new students to log in to the Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau to make online appointments for medical examinations.
(3) If the physical examination is passed, the new students need to continue to prepare relevant materials, and then go to Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to apply for a residence permit. If the physical examination fails, the student must leave China immediately and return home country. Materials required for visa: Passport and photocopy, original JW202 form, original admission letter, tuition payment certificate, a 2-inch photo, original medical examination result certificate, and original temporary accommodation registration page.
(4) The staff of the International Student Office of CIE assists new students to Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to apply for residence permits. Generally, the passport can be retrieved after 15 working days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and national legal holidays). After getting back the passport, new students can copy the new residence permit as a backup.
2) Non-freshmen applying for extension of residence permit
(1) If Non-freshmen change their accommodation address, they need to report to the local police station for temporary accommodation registration with their passports and rental contracts (only for off-campus students).
(2) International students should bring their passport, 2-inch photo, transcript and rental contract (for off-campus students) to the International Students Office one month before the visa expires. The staff will update the latest passport information online, then make an online appointment and print out the application form of residence permit for the students.
(3) International students go to Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to provide information onsite and apply for the extension of the residence permit. The materials required to apply for a residence permit include: a copy of the original passport, a copy of the visa page of the passport, a copy of the entry stamp, the original and copy of the JW202 form, a copy of the original admission letter, and a copy of the rental contract (only for off-campus boarding students), original transcripts, visa application form, and confirmation letter (issued by the CIE office).
(4) Passports can be retrieved after 15 working days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and national legal holidays) after the entry and exit materials are accepted. After taking back the passport, copy the new residence permit for a backup.
